During a recent visit to Lake Garda, in northern Italy, I discovered their local, easy drinking, white wine Lugana DOC.
Lakeside, this ticks all the boxes, quenching thirst in 30’C heat, crisp but not astringent, light but flavoursome. Not too much thought is needed, nor demanded with this simple, what-it-says-on-the-tin style drop.
Our accommodation was on the lakeshore near the old town of the Sirmione peninsula. A wonderful setting to dip one’s toes in the Lago after a light, inoffensive tipple.
The grape(s) of Lugana DOC contain a minimum 90% Trebbiano di Lugana, an offshoot of Trebbiano (Ugni Blanc) grape. Balance, fruit and spice- drink young and enjoy your surroundings and company!
