Lugana – Wine of Verona

During a recent visit to Lake Garda, in northern Italy, I discovered their local, easy drinking, white wine Lugana DOC.

otella_lugana-1Lakeside, this ticks all the boxes, quenching thirst in 30’C heat, crisp but not astringent, light but flavoursome. Not too much thought is needed, nor demanded with this simple, what-it-says-on-the-tin style drop.

Our accommodation was on the lakeshore near the old town of the Sirmione peninsula. A wonderful setting to dip one’s toes in the Lago after a light, inoffensive tipple.

The grape(s) of Lugana DOC contain a minimum 90% Trebbiano di Lugana, an offshoot of Trebbiano (Ugni Blanc) grape. Balance, fruit and spice- drink young and enjoy your surroundings and company!
